As I said, "purging" as in expunging deleted emails, or "purging" as in
arbitrarily removing emails older than a certain date?  (If the latter,
get a new mail provider!)

And I presume this action by your ISP is co-incidental with your change
of Evolution version? i.e. it's not actually an Evolution issue per se?

Evolution can download messages for "off-line access", but it's
certainly not a "make a copy on my computer so I know they are safe"
sort of thing.  The whole premise of IMAP is that messages are kept on
the server rather than the local computer since servers are generally
more secure, better maintained, backed up, and so on.
