Yes, do so.  Once you have IMAP setup with your provider copy your mail
from the Outlook local folders to the IMAP folders.  Then, when setting
up Evolution, just configure it as an IMAP client and leave the mail on
the server - it's much much easier that way.  By the looks of it your
provider (ptd.net) uses Zimbra and that will work really well with
Evolution - and your mail will be available through their webmail
interface as well if you stick to IMAP.
