They seems to have been moved to .local/share/evolution/calendar/system/
Those were orginally in .evolution/local/system which no longer exists.
On my old computer they were in .evolution/local/system.
My question is why they were moved? Was it something the system did on
its own for some reason, or was the result of something I did
inadvertently.
Perhaps you could refer me to some documentation which describes how
evolution sets up file its files?
Finally, again I ask why originally after I restored from the backup my
old appointments were not visible but then they suddenly reappeared.

I suppose I should just be happy it works, but past experience has
taught me that if the system acts strangely for unknown reasons, then it
will come back to haunt me.
