Here's the problem:
When composing a mail in Evolution, I click on on "add attachment" at
the bottom of the window. I then navigate to, say, my pictures
folder. I am presented with a list of file names and no preview
window. Unless I have memorised the file name of the image, how will
I know what the image is, if there is no preview window? Only after
I've attached the image, do I see the thumbnail in the attachment bar.
I'm also a newbie and what I do is Places/Pictures/ then select the
photo I want to email, right click on it, then on the "Send As.." drop
down menu/select "email"/fill in the email address in "Send To" and Evo
does the rest,

No, that works. I do the same all the time.
Either that or dragging into the message window.
Both are easier, in almost any case, than using a file-chooser for
attaching a document.
