I use evolution to sync with my Google Contacts and it works well.

Please explain in more detail.

Just add a new address book in Evolution and select "Google" as the type
(instead of "On This Computer"). Works well, except that you can't use
this address book if you're not connected to the network.

I guess you have to take well with a small grain of salt...

The Mac Address Book can synch with Google Contacts. I then directed
evolution to synch with Google Contacts.

It worked fairly well except that all contacts that I had marked
as 'Company' in the Mac Address Book showed up without a name
by the time they arrived on the boxen running Evolution.

The company name field had moved to a field that was not displayed
as the main name.

I did some pasting into the name field in Google contacts and
that seems to have helped ( but "A B C" displays as "C A" ).
