Could you post the output of 

  ls -l ~/.evolution/mail/local

and

  ls -l ~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox

so we can see what the state of your mail store is.  Please make sure
you don't leak any personal information, but it would be instructive to
us to see what exists in those folders, who the owner is and what the
permissions are.
