You're about the 3rd person in about a month to report similar issues. But we all seem to have done something "non standard". In my case I tried to build Evolution 2.24.3 before it was released. That did something strange to my address book. I managed to recover in a similar way to you and had no problems deleting the old address books from the command line. I then recreated them and the appear to be fine.
