I've had a quick go at this. Evo 2.12 is not available from the main

That's clearly a bug. And we need you to discover them :)
Evolution 2.12 hasn't been released yet. But the download page *is*
out-of-date. We've had seven unstable releases since 2.10.0. Also, the
latest stable release is 2.10.3, not .2. Clearly we need to do a better
job at keeping this page up-to-date.
The compilation instructions were generic GNU instructions and said
there would be a configure script, which there wasn't. I tried make but
it said no targets. I tried running "./autogen.sh" and it said "You need
to install gnome-common from the GNOME CVS".
The generic GNU instructions are written for released tarballs, which do
include a configure script. Running autogen.sh was correct for
compiling from Subversion. The gnome-common package can be obtained
here:
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/gnome-common/2.18/
But like Muelli said, installing packages from your distro is much
easier and preferred if you can.
Hope this helps,
Matthew Barnes
