I've read the help, I've gone through gconf-editor with a fine-tooth
comb, I've gone through the settings, and I've googled on it. I just
can't find any reference to text AND icons in evo. Put me out of my
misery and kick me in the right direction :-) PLEASE.

Theres a gnome-wide setting for this. Someone I'm sure will comment if
it can be overridden on a per-application basis (which may or may not be
what you want).

On my FC4 system its available under
Preferences -> Menu and Toolbars -> Toolbar button labels

Ahh, that's why it isn't obvious :-) I don't use gnome, nor have used
for a VERY long time. I'm an Xfce man, nowadays :-) so don't even think
about system-wide gnome settings.

This highlights one of my pet peeves in the way that gnome-based apps
have moved more and more of the settings away from the individual app to
centralised management over the years. Galeon is another gnome-based
app that is the backbone of my system, but it's settings have been
gutted over the years so hardly anything remains in the app itself :-(

In gconf its under
  /desktop/gnome/interface/toolbar_style

Got it!

PS: I'm sure someone will tell me the setting is right in front of my
nose and what's wrong with me :-(

Well I had to look for this, but had an idea where I had seen it
before...

      Nigel.

Thanks a lot.

Gavin.
