Like there is a race condition somewhere.

I'm running an SMP machine, and since building e-d-s from anon cvs on 052604 the calendar hang problem seems to have gone away.  (The calendar is dirt slow, however, and seems to have a memory leak - after running for less than a day the eds process is 155M Virtual, 80M RES, which is much larger than it has been in the past operating on the same calendar data.)
