Hmm. I'm sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, but I'm still puzzled. As
you can see, Evolution does not do what you describe. (Or is "My
Signature" below not an actual Evolution-added signature? Did you just
type that in?) I haven't noticed it stripping any messages I've replied
to at work, either.

most mailers would. I forgot I added logic to Evolution a while back to
look for the last "signature looking thing" and only strip that out.

So lets try this.. (might work, might not - signature stripping is
broken in 1.5 so I can't really test)

My Signature

For that matter, in my pre-Evolution days I don't think Emacs Gnus ever
stripped messages, either. FWIW, M$ Outlook also doesn't.

Anyway, now that we've got a good long top-posted thread going here,
look how far away from my writing you find my signature. That's what I
find a little awkward.

Here's a real-world example. Here I am top-posting away...

if my signature is immediately after my text but before the text I'm
replying to, then when you go to reply to my message, your mailer will
strip everything starting at my signature. Thus your reply will not
contain any of the past drama of the thread.

In Evolution, when I top-post to a thread, the signature gets put at the
very bottom, after potentially several pages of other people's writing.
In Outlook, the signature gets put immediately after my text. I think
this is what Jeremy was referring to, as it's been an annoyance for me
when I use Evolution for work.

uhm, but then when someone replies to his message, the mailer would
strip his signature and everything afetr it, completely wiping out any
previous conversation. This is a Bad Thing (tm).

I'm not following. The mailer doesn't need to strip anything. The .sig
is left right in place, like this top-posting example:

------ example 1 --------

This is a second reply.

Moe

Moe's signature

This is the first reply.

Curly

Curly's signature

This is the original message.

Larry

Larry's signature

------ end example 1 --------

The way Evolution currently does it is:

------ example 2 --------

This is a second reply.

Moe

This is the first reply.

Curly

This is the original message.

Larry

Larry's signature

Curly's signature

Moe's signature
------ end example 2 --------

If I'm replying to a long thread, no one will see my signature unless
they scroll all the way down to the bottom, which they naturally won't.
