For mail you can do a lot worse than just putting it all onto an IMAP
server from Outlook, then accessing it there from Evolution.

If you're using IMAP then you may be able to avoid the need to run on a
remote X display too. That was the main reason I started using
Evolution, personally -- the ability to use IMAP and hence run it
_locally_ wherever I am.
