Re: [Evolution] Will Evolution 2.0 support RSS feeds

Hm, I sent this earlier, but I don't think it made it to the list for
some reason. So I'm resending. If you've seen this already, ignore it.
;)

Thats fine, but I still don't understand why its going away.

I know I already explained this on the list (like others, too) but I
cannot find my sent message -- so from head again...

There are numerous reasons, why the Summary page will be dropped. All
those sum up to the final decision for Evolution 2.0:

- The code AFAIK is unmaintained for quite some time now.
- It does not fit into the new UI, unless it gets rewritten.
- The current layout is very inflexible.
- There are better RSS aggregators out there.
- other reasons I forgot...

The decision, to drop the Summary page for the Evolution 2.0 release,
does not mean, it can never come back. In fact, there seems to be demand
for the Summary page. If anyone comes up with a clean, maintained
implementation that fits into the new UI, it likely will get added
again.

Its
extremely handyto have all your information accessable from one single
screen. I can sit down with a cup of coffee in the morning and at a
glance see my Mail summary, appointments for the month and my to-do
list. I can also go over the headlines from various websites quickly
before I leave for work. Why take this out? Am I going to be required
to click every single folder I just mentioned to see if anything has
changed?

You still can use the folder bar to see all folders containing new mails
at a glange:
 View / Folder bar

A vFolder containing any mail arrived within the last 24 hours may be
handy, too.

Its not that it would be hard to do, but why should I have
to if there is already a way to see ALL the information at a glance?
Now I'm going to need two programs open (mail and this 'clock applet')
to do what Evolution currently does (and does well) right now? That
makes no sense.
