http_proxy it was.  I don't recall every having configured this, but
"use http proxy" was checked, with absolutely no information filled in
for it.  I changed it to "direct connection to internet" and VOILA,
baybee!!  =:)

Dan, if you're ever in PA, I owe you a milkshake or something!!  =:)
