Reimporting would probably be cleaner, if less convenient.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your advice.

What I expect to retain are old mail boxes used by "satimis" (USER). I
found all of them in following folder;

/home/satimis/evolution/local/

...
...
inbox
Outbox
retained (created for retaining useful emails)
Sent
...
etc

Could I copy all of them and paste them back after upgrade in case of
problem. I did the same trick on Win Eudora by coping the incoming mail
box, outgoing mail box, etc.

Only files in package management will be overwritten on upgrade
(ignoring postinstall scripts, but they're not relevant in the current
context). Files kept in ~, including your mail, shouldn't be affected
by package upgrades.

New versions of software can and will modify some files in ~, typically
because a configuration file format changed, or because a new
configuration option has been added.

If you want to be very cautious, you can close Evolution, run "killev",
back up ~/evolution, perform the upgrade, and run Evolution. If there
are problems, one way out is to revert and restore ~/evolution. Another
option is to use IMAP.

Did you try "killev" or "oaf-slay" before rebooting? That usually sorts
out most things.

No. I will try next time when problem reoccurs

BTW, 1.08 is very old - the latest versions are much better.

I have "evolution-1.4.0-1.i386.rpm" downloaded but hesitate to upgrade.
Because I am worrying during upgrade the old email boxes will be
overwritten. Is there a way to retain all old email boxes during
upgrade?

This happens after exiting "Evolution" and restart it later.

Kindly advise how to solve this problem avoiding reboot
