What's more strange, though, is that when looking at the mail source,
the very last lines were:

which seems to show a remains of a buffer or something like this
No, the problem is that the message contained a single base64-encoded
part, so appending the normal message footer text to it resulted in
garbled pseudo-base64, and when evo read it in, it re-garbled it
differently, and that's what you're seeing above. There's a bug about it
in bugzilla.
