Very very similar, except that in preview pane mode.  If I delete a file
in a thread the whole thread seems to move down the sort order, which
then means when I reach the end of the thread I move to a different
thread, rather than the one I expected.

    There wasn't really an answer except to say use preview pane to get more control 
    of what happens, more of a fudge than a cure.
