Re: [Evolution] 9-digit ZIP code idea

It looks like that faq is describing the 9-digit zip code database. Do
you know if the 5-digit zip codes are available? That information would
be a fairly small database, and it doesn't change nearly as much as the
9-digit database. It looks like the services that are being sold are
things like updates to the 9-digit database, geographic information for
a 9-digit zip code, and things like that

Along these lines... while looking up zip code information, I found
softwares that print the barcodes at the bottom of the address labels.
If evolution can print (or will be able to print) address labels, this
might be a useful addition for business mail. It's a very simple
format, and it can be implemented by defining a simple font. If nothing
else, it makes labels look really professional.

and it might be available,
especially since people make money on the 9-digit codes.

The USPS would really not like such a thing happening. There's an
entire industry that sells such databases to businesses. See the USPS'
FAQ on the matter.

I was just thinking, it would be nice if evolution's addressbook
component could interface with the USPS's 9-digit ZIP code database. I'm
not srue if there is a low-level access point to it other than the web
interface, but it seemed like it could be a nice addition.

Shall I drop it into bugzilla?
