Actually, I haven't been using CVS. I tried uninstalling everything
and getting the CVS packages tonight...but didn't have much success.
I'm going to try getting new tarballs and see if that makes a difference
(CVS is new to me and learning how to use it more effectively isn't my
top priority right now--I'm trying to get Slackware up and running on
another box).
Thanks, :-)

Looks like the evolution tarball you got was a little borked. The
directories that didn't contain Makefile.in's have been removed in favor
of newer directories/code.
If you're using CVS, you might try doing another cvs -z3 co evolution
(after removing the old source tree).

Thanks, Jeff! Found the package and got it installed. The
xml-i18n-tools package took care of the compilation problem with
gnome-vfs--however, during ./configure I still got the complaint about
sed not finding the files in the intl directory, and when I checked out
that directory found that the two files sed was looking for were 0 byte
files. So I then removed the gnome-vfs directory--which was ver.
0.50--and download ver. 0.4.2...but got the same results. Hmmm? More
on this in a minute.
So I (think) I got gnome-vfs installed. Then I moved on to evolution
and got the following error msg. during ./configure:
sed: can't read ./executive-summary/widgets/Makefile.in: No such file or
directory
sed: can't read ./camel/providers/mbox/Makefile.in: No such file or
directory
sed: can't read ./camel/providers/mh/Makefile.in: No such file or directory
So I checked these directories, and sure enough there is no Makefile.in;
there are Makefiles in each, but they're all 0 byte files. So I went on
and tried to compile and get the following error msgs.:
/opt/gnome/share/idl/bonobo-moniker.idl:19: Warning:
`ALLOW_USER_INTERACTION' underscores within identifiers are discouraged
for use with C-language IDL mappings

I don't know exactly what all this means, but I take it the
ALLOW_USER_INTERACTION just doesn't meet the C language standard or
something. As for the undefined references: is this a package different
from libunicode? Because I do have libunicode installed and this is the
first complaint I've seen about 'unicode..." anything.
I don't know if this makes a difference, but I haven't been using the
CVS packages. Should I try installing the necessary packages from CVS
and see what happens?
At this point, I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks,
Tim

There should be a package on ftp.gnome.org called xml-i18n-tools, you'll
need to get that and install it before you install most of the other
packages.

Hi! So far, I've compiled and installed GConf, bonobo, gtkhtml, and oaf
successfully. I'm hitting a wall with gnome-vfs, however. I'm
configuring gnome-vfs-0.5 by './configure --prefix=/opt/gnome
--sysconfdir=/etc/opt/gnome' and everything seems to go fine with this
one exception:
sed: can't read ./intl/po2tbl.sed.in: No such file or directory
sed: can't read ./intl/Makefile.in: No such file or directory
I'm hoping this has something to do with internalization and isn't
important.
But, upon compiling I get the following error msg:
make[3]: ../../xml-i18n-merge: Command not found
make[3]: *** [gnome-vfs.keys] Error 127
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
I take it the xml-i18n-merge is some kind of feature for the merging of
documents, etc. But does it also have to do with internationalization
(i18n) and do I need it? I'm asking because I tried going ahead and
doing 'make install' for this package, but then when I get to running
the configure script for evolution it complains about gnome-vfs not
being installed.
I guess my question is this: if I need this "xml-i18n-merge" to proceed
from here where do I get it? If I don't need it...hmmm. What's the
next step to solve this problem?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim
