RE: [Evolution] MS Outlook iCalendar attachments

This is one of those cases where MS claims to support industry
standards, but their implemenation is so poor as to make you wonder why
they bothered.

When creating a meeting: (copied from the Outlook 2000 help)
        Send an Internet (iCal) meeting
        request as an e-mail attachment
1. Invite attendees to a meeting, but
do not send the meeting request.
2. On the Actions menu, click Forward as iCalendar.
3. In the new e-mail message that appears,
       click To, designate recipients,
       and then click Send.

The user on the other end must view the ical attachment and import it.

Also, if you want other Outlook/Exchange users to receive the message,
you need to hit the send button so that the message is sent to them.
This second step is necessary for the Outlook/Exchange scheduler to work
as you intend. I have not figured out how to update the appointment in
Outlook when a person accepts or declines the message.

Importing the appointment into your calendar is not too difficult with
Evolution, but other calendars may be more difficult.

Sending messages the other way - ical to Outlook requires that the user
import the message to their calendar. This is not simple, but is
possible.

Yikes.

Hope this helps.

Tom Cooper
