This is one of those cases where MS claims to support industry

When creating a meeting: (copied from the Outlook 2000 help)
        Send an Internet (iCal) meeting
        request as an e-mail attachment
1. Invite attendees to a meeting, but
do not send the meeting request.
2. On the Actions menu, click Forward as iCalendar.
3. In the new e-mail message that appears,
       click To, designate recipients,
       and then click Send.
[snip more procedures]

If you go to the Outlook options (and you are setup as Internet Only
mode - don't know about "C/W" mode), there is a Calendar option that
says something like "send meeting notices in iCalendar format" --
something like that, I'm not looking at it right now. However, this
puts the iCalendar as the message text (in plain text format), and
Evolution just shows it as text, instead of as a meeting notice
(Evolution 0.10, or somewhere around that time, used to show it as a
meeting request form).

This would eliminate all the "attaching/importing" steps.
