Re: [Evolution] Evolution over the network

Thanks for your response Ricardo,

I sure don't understand why it is not working for me. I can run all
sorts of apps over ssh with X11 forwarding but evolution and nautilus.

So I did some tests and here is what I found:

If I start evolution on the server, everything is fine.
If I then close evolution and start evolution from my ssh session
expecting to have evolution display on my client, I get the "Cannot
access Bonobo/Config Database on wombat" message.

If subsequently I killev on the server, and start evolution from my ssh
session I get an evolution window but also a bunch of warning messages.

The problem is that I don't see any of my folders and settings. It looks
like an empty evolution.

So I close evolution and trying to outsmart it, I tried to start
evolution with --oaf-private (which I am not sure what it is for) and
got the following

Because I am relying on the snapshot and not the source code I haven't
had a chance to investigate further. I just wish somebody who had the
same problem and was able to fix it.

Of what I understand and you can correct me if I am wrong, evolution
starts a bunch of processes representing different services. Each of
these services register with the evolution process and use corba to
communicate.

My problem I am experiencing I think is that those services don't
undertand that evolution display is on another host. For example, if I
start evolution on the server, and start another evolution on the
client, I get a second instance of evolution started on the server. What
is frustrating is that evolution is the only application behaving this
way. I starts StarOffice, Gnumeric, Abiword ... that way and it works
like a charm.

I know have tried on 2 differents computers, with the same result. Can
somebody be more explicit on how they got it working step by step

Thanks in advance

Pascal

I am trying to run evolution over ssh, vncviewer, rfbserver and I
get
always the same result. Note that other Gnome applications don't

any problem running in that setup. Actually the only other app with
the
same problem is Nautilus.

Hmmm... I'm running over the network right now and I haven't had any
problems. (display to a win2k notebook running eXceed. I prefer
Evolution... even when I HAVE to be on my win2k box ;o)

Difference is that I'm not using ssh, since I'm only going to my main
system in my bedroom from my living room I just telnet. Have you
tried
the same experiment using a simple telnet session? any problems with
that method?
