Re: [Evolution] help - Ive just deleted all my mail for some strange reason?

virtual foldersw are completely separate to filters.

They do not move any mail. They are merely a representation of your
existing mail with a different matching criteria applied. I.e. you
could have a virtual folder of "all mail from miguel", and that could
draw content from multiple real folders.

The unmatched folder as stated previously is all messages not matched by
any other virtual folder. IF you have no virtual folders it will match
all messages in all folders you have opened. Since you are only looking
at references to the real messages, any normal operations, delete,
remove, etc, work on those folders.

If you haven't expunged or emptied your trash, your messages will not
have been deleted either, but i presume you have.

They contain mail that matches a given search.

o.k, but what exactly do u mean by given search?
i have only set up basic filtes to say filter and move work and
evolution mails into their correct folders.i presume that this is
different to vfolders?

See the Tools->Virtual Folder Editor menu).
In this section i have no options entered, but i get new mail com into
my vfolders as well as my inbox?

can i download any evolution docs (rather than posting simple questions
that reading the docs should explain, as i feel as iam wasting peoples
time, asking very basic simple questions), as the snapshot rpms for some
reason failed to install the evo docs...

The
UNMATCHED vfolder contains all mail that was not matched by any other
vfolder. So if you have no other vfolder, the UNMATCHED vfolder contains
all of your mail messages.

The trick is that when you do something to any message in a vfolder, the
action actually happens to the original message. So if you delete
everything in the UNMATCHED vfolder, you delete all your mail.

When used correctly, vfolders can be very powerful. Maybe this should be
a configuration option... like an "enable virtual folders" toggle
somewhere.

HTH,
Eric
