Regarding a TODO list mgr -- Evolution does have a TODO list alright,
which uses the traditional list-with-priorities-and-tickboxes IIRC (can't
check right now).

I'm sure some good ideas would be welcome on what other apps do wrong and
what needs to be done right.

One TODO feature I've already suggested: I know that in my current job
(free and non-free s/w development & a bit of managing) and in a previous
job (sysadmin), my TODO list was 90% e-mail driven, with a message or
thread related to each TODO item.  I've already thrown in a feature
suggestion into Tom's hat, for the ability to link TODO items to mail
messages/vfolders, which covers that one quite easily I think.

Another which I hadn't mentioned, as it could be tricky: The Palm has an
app called BrainForest, which looks pretty neat.  It's an outliner (a
simple hierarchy editor, cf.  http://www.outliners.com/ ), which means you
can break down tasks in a todo list into a tree, and tick off subitems;
once you've got through the sub-items you can then tick the top-level item
as "done".

        +   Handle connection failures properly
                (tick) cache partially-downloaded blahs
                -      rewrite blah.c to do foo
                -      gracefully handle foo errors in bar
        -   Buy food

BTW having said all that, BrainForest may look neat, but I never used it
enough to register it, and I still haven't found one that *really* works
enough that I'd be bothered using it over my "vi ~/TODO" window. ;)
That could partly have been due to (a) it was nagware and (b) my Palm
speed isn't as fast as my typing, tho.

What features in other TODO list managers have people found really
compelling?
