Good question.  I'd still like to see it happen, but I haven't heard
from Srini in several months and our architecture has changed greatly
since the last commit on that repo.  If I end up having to carry it the
rest of the way then it then it's at least a year out yet since I have
other priorities.  This is a nice-to-have, not a must-have feature.

I haven't ported it beyond 3.4. But I always see a week or two effort to update to the latest branch. Evolution project exports the libemail-engine and libemail-utils (which is gone now) to e-mail-factory daemon[1]. I just keeping porting it when I get sometime. Its definitely not dead and I wouldn't leave it atleast.

The daemon code[1]  is maintained here for the time being once we do all great, this & the library should be in EDS.  It has a complete dbus api but the ideal design would be to get a eclient based one. It needs about 4-6man months to complete this and let evolution use this.
