If somebody else wrote it, and *maintained* it (maybe even to the point
of forking Epiphany), I'm sure chpe or anybody else wouldn't mind. Such
a course of action is very different from suggesting to an expert in the
field what you feel should be the focus of his effort :).
Webkit *does* work with Epiphany. There was an experiment a couple of
years ago. Implementing a new browser back-end involves many, many
unforeseeable, intricate bugs. The first 95% is easy, but the second 95%
would be an utter pain in the neck. There are other ways in which
Epiphany can improve: ways which are easier to implement and more likely
to succeed. Switching to WebKit would take months or years of effort,
during which time Epiphany would not have as much opportunity to
improve. It would also lead to regressions.
But the beauty of open source is that you can fork Epiphany if you like.
Nobody's stopping you, and nobody would take any offence whatsoever.
There are indeed advantages to using WebKit over Mozilla (just as there
are disadvantages). Your choice is yours to make.
