I wasn't talking about virtual memory. A blank epiphany has 8 MB of
data. Loading one simple page adds 4 MB. A blank evolution uses 7 MB
of data. Browsing a small mail folder (~ 40 messages) adds 6 MB.
Mutt, looking at the index of a folder with ~ 1000 messages, has 2 MB
 of data.

If you have 256 MB that's no big deal. If you have 128 MB it is. My
gazillion is something like 10% of the system's memory.

PS: I don't add more memory to the small machine because it uses rather
expensive and hard-to-find memory, before you remind me that memory
is nowadays cheap. And other than that, that machine is more than
     adequate for its purpose.
