Sounds fun. Yet IIRC it goes a bit beyond of what was once planned for
clutter integration. For now only the image viewing widget was planned
to be replaced. But there's noone really working on that until recently
when the patches were refreshed.[1,2]

So, to be able to implement your proposal one would have to extend the
proposal and the API to include the image collection widget as well
(possibly extending the plugin API to be able to plug different views
using plugins).
