I find the design in A to be more balanced and harmonious - the foot
and lamp in B look a little squished in.

In both designs, the GNOME foot logo has been compressed horizontally.
It would be a lot better if the original aspect ratio could be
preserved.

Indeed.  I am also in favor of the first one albeit it the lamp tends to be associated with Diwali.  I'm not sure if confusion will ensue or not.
