Re: Celebrating GNOME's birthday

Post looks good. I think it should be live now, but I'm not sure it is. Can someone please double check wordpress settings?

We might want to post messages on social media along with the badge.

@Oliver or Parth - can you help post to facebook and twitter? I like Parth's google+ blurb, so here's something for each building upon that. Feel free to edit, this is just a suggestion.

Love the post, Parth!

@All - I've started a draft [1] of the birthday announcement on wordpress that I'd like to schedule to post tomorrow. I need your help:

General editing.
Can someone please proofread and help me edit the draft? I think it may have too much going on so feel free to hack it apart. I took some of Allan's suggestions from up above and included the original email announcement and a picture of Federico. I reached out to Miguel to see if he has time to send a recent picture too.

Formatting.
I don't know how to format wordpress properly, so can't add the breaks that I want. It looks a bit off now. @Allan or Fabiana - any chance you can help edit the formatting of the draft? I'd love to learn formatting tips from you later on IRC or a private email.

Filling in the "Did you know?" section.
I added a short section that is supposed to say how many current contributors we have, how many countries are represented, and how many stories we closed this year. The problem is, I don't know any of this info. I think some of you might - can anyone help either supply the info or point me out in the right direction? I will remove the section if nobody responds. Please feel free to suggest an alternative to these cool facts. It'd be great to include something most people don't know.

Thank you again for your help, everyone! Especially given such short notice.

Best,
Nuritzi

Great to have you involved with this!

I really wish we had an archive of old photos that we could use... the
only thing that I can think of are the pictures on
happybirthdaygnome.org (which needs to be retired, really). I'm not
sure where they came from, though.

Miguel and Federico founded the project. Federico is still around and
there are pictures of him from GUADEC. We'd have to reach out to
Miguel to get a recent photo.

Other things we could talk about on the birthday:

 * Our history in numbers - eg. number of releases, GUADECs, bugs, etc.
 * Link to the original announcement email [1].
 * Link to the GNOME 1.0 virtual machine that we created for the 15th
birthday [2] (instructions are on happybirthday.gnome.org).
