Jumping in kind of late.
I agree with what you're saying. The LiveCD should clearly state
that this is for demonstration purposes only and does not reflect the
final product which must be obtained from a "qualified" distribution.
I leave qualified to whoever we want. I was going to start a new thread
on distributions, but I don't feel like it. It'll be a rat hole.
We are a producer of technology (an R&D shop whatever), we don't
actually interact with normal users unless they want to help. :)

I am not advocating that gnome stop marketing itself. I am merely
saying that once you start installing something on a machine, you have
to support it. And no, gnomesupport is not the kind of support I am
talking about. I am talking about security patches and similar non-fun
stuff.
If Gnome wants to go this path and become a distribution in and of
itself, that is fine, but I doubt that that is what your average gnome
hacker wants.
