Tesing ekiga client behind the simplest Linux SNAT firewall:
-A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0 -j SNAT --to my.public.ip.address
Case 1: don't enable "Disable network detection"
Results:
ekiga.net server connection works.
sipphone.com server connection works.
Case 2: enable "Disable network detection"
Results:
ekiga.net server registration fails with "Could not register (Globally
not acceptable)"
sipphone.com server connection works.
Could someone explain why ekiga.net server is more picky then
sipphone.com? Are there any plans to allow connections without STUN
server help?
Because your client puts private IP addresses in packets. When doing so, if you contact another Ekiga.net user, there will be no audio / video.
The only solution to that problem would be that we relay the audio and video streams through Ekiga.net. That's something sipphone.com can do for paid calls (from/to PSTN).
