What I described happens in an identical manner both with Ekiga
2.0.3-2.1 (libopal-2.2.0 2.2.3.dfsg-3), from the official Sid repository
and with the latest daily snapshot from http://snapshots.ekiga.net
(ekiga-snapshot 20070303-01-sid.1, libopal-cvs 20070303-01-sid.1).

Agreed about weirdness!
