When building software you will probably want all of the d/ series;
ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware64-13.1/slackware64/d/
I recommend you investigate slackpkg to aid you.

On a full install of slackware, the package that script builds won't
need any additional packages to work. I should know, I wrote and
maintain it.

Does anyone know where I can find a binary install of dia 0.97 for
Slackware/64 release 13.1? I don't really have the desire or motivation

construct a complete graphics development environment simply to try out
one
application.
Been there, seen that. But it only points to a copy of the source with a
script to build it. You still need to install all of the dependencies
before
it will work. I need one that is already compiled with all of the
libraries
statically linked so it is plug and play.
Apparently, your idea of a full install and mine don't match. I got this far
with your build script:
-------------------------------------------
checking for intltool >= 0.35.0... ./configure: line 21081: intltool-update:
command not found
found
configure: error: Your intltool is too old. You need intltool 0.35.0 or
later.
-------------------------------------------
Unfortunately, I have no idea how many other pieces will be found missing.
So I install this package, and then get an error that tells me the next
package to install. After I install that one, I get an error about the
next one. Rinse, repeat, ad infinitum.
No, I have all of the D package I need for my work. However, I do not do
any GUI development outside of HTML, so I don't have, and don't intend
to install, any of the X development libraries, particularly the
unnecessarily overloaded garbage collections required for Gnome or KDE.
That's why I need a binary installation package. Your rather naive
assumption that everyone should install a complete GUI development
environment is the problem here.
It looks like I stick with OOo.draw, and don't get to find out if it
really is possible to create a real ERD in dia and translate it into SQL.
