It would be nice, the shape being the same thing as a diagram.
There is no prose description, just a DTD. And no, shapes are
different, and have very different needs - they actually contain
embedded SVG. It would make some sense to use SVG to define the
rendering of each object in the dia format (more or less embedding the
shapes).
