FYI, I added all of this information (about editing text, short-cut
keys, etc.) to the documentation this summer, but I don't think it has
been incorporated yet. Mark Dexter

I would like to use the Esc key to activate the Modify function. Is that
possible?
Also, Alt-E does not work for Ellipse (I could use Ctrl-C), and Alt-T does
not work for Text (Shift-T would be OK since Ctrl-T is taken).
Alternately, you could teach a man to fish instead of merely giving him one.
But that would mean documentation, gods forbid.
If the Ctrl-Delete was in the menu pull down I would have known about it
years ago. Instead I have been accidentally deleting text throughout that
time because Dia is literally the only program of dozens I use which has
that function. Please consider an Edit menu with the following:
Delete............................Delete
Delete within Text...........Ctrl-Delete
BTW, Cut is also the more common Ctrl-X, Copy is Ctrl-C, and Paste is Ctrl-V
in addition to the more complicated Shft-Ctrl-X,C, and V that are shown in
the Edit menu.
I would advocate going for the more common usage generally rather than
making new keystroke standards just for Dia. It reduces productivity for
new users to have unusual shortcuts. For years I have not known of
Ctrl-Delete. How would I know that? Only from the recent conversation.
I would be happy to maintain a file of shortcuts that the programs calls for
setting at start up. Or some sort of dialog which is common in Windows
programs like Tool,Options, or Tools/Customize which are commonly use for
this sort of thing. I am accustomed to looking for Tools/Customize when I
want to do something like this.
What I really like is the ability to record macros and run them with a
shortcut key. Any program that offers this is automatically much better for
people that have repetitive stress problems, and increases the productivity
of power users.

Hello.
Before you all start killing for this ;). You can change the behaviour
of Dia for yourself. It is quite simple though not documented anywhere
on Dia pages (it should!).
Just run (under Windows):
notepad %USERPROFILE%\.dia\menurc
Change:
; (gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/display-actions/EditDelete"
"Delete")
To:
(gtk_accel_path "<Actions>/display-actions/EditDelete"
"<Control>Delete")
And you're done! Delete works as one would expect and you can see in the
menu that to delete an object you need to use Ctrl+Delete. Like I said
before - one of the first things I set in Dia after installing it.
BTW I think that a nicer workaround would be to have a working Delete
key for removing any objects unless some text is active. If some text is
active (a cursor is visible) then use delete normally and Ctrl+Delete
for removing objects.

Nux.
