Murray seems to suggest otherwise:

He also supports their inclusion, as do I (if it means anything :)  

gnome-python 2.9 already has some nice additions such as gnomevfs
module with support for watching hal-style mounts—this is actually
something I need to better integrate my MP3 player with Gnome :)
