Well, anything non-standard (even if it is nice and beautiful in X.Org
server) is nearly vetoed inside of me. As I said, I make all efforts to
be as server-agnostic as possible. Just think about users of VNC or
Exceed - which have nothing to do with XF86Config. Should they be able
to use gnome?

I am at it?:) I am not a g-sys-tools guy, I am a keyboard guy:) As I
said, I do not see nice way (from both UI and architecture POV) to merge
g-s-t and g-k-p now.
BTW, we should still remember about these poor people who do not have
xkb at all in their X servers - or, which is worse, have it broken. The
solution should be scalable to these situations as well.
