Putting the vfs backend in gtk itself, with the
--enable-gnome-vfs=yes/no/auto also makes sense to me. However I think
it currently creates a circular build dependency due to gconf, as a
practical matter.
gnome-vfs and gtk+ are the two reasonable places to put this backend
IMO.
