Yeah, this basically sucks. In the gaim plugin, I was able to get at
the widget I need, but anywhere you can do this you are probably
violating the plugin interface to do it.
I don't see any other option though, so I agree with the two of you.

Why would we do that?
Pros for dashboard:
- I can't think of any.
Cons for dashboard:
- All frontends have to link with D-BUS
- Someone spends time on doing this, which has no net positive
effect on the dash board user experience or the developer
experience, instead of doing something useful.
The only reason I can think of to do this is if we wanted to use
Dashboard as a means to getting people to adopt D-BUS and link their
apps against it. I don't want to do this, at least in the near future.
