It's not easy to detect if something is an audiobook, so it's imported
into Music, you can mark and move it to audiobooks yourself.

Yeah, a bug or at least a behaviour that is not expected.

Depends on your settings. If "Copy files to media folder when
importing" is checked it imports the files.

Everything is under preferences, If your files are already in the set
directory they are not again imported, but if they are e.g. in your
Download folder they are imported when the setting is set.
