[Banshee-List] Album completeness

In the transition from physical media to computer, one of the things
that gets lost is the concept of an album as an indivisible thing.
When I look through my Banshee album browser it shows album covers.
There's no way to tell if these albums are single tracks or complete
units; and there certainly isn't a way to filter or search by
"completeness". Browse By Album often breaks down into Browse Single
Songs By The Album They Appear On.
This problem obviously bugs me enough to write to the list about it,
and I'm trying to come up with a proper solution. If it were in any
way reliable then Track X of Y tagging would indicate whether an album
was complete or not, but the Y value is almost-never used. Banshee can
obviously identify "releases" because it often manages to fetch an
album cover when I'm not even sure what the album is... Is it possible
(via musicbrainz or other) to check the known tracks against the
official tracklisting and use this information? I haven't looked at
the code to see how it treats albums - are they containers of songs,
or arbitrary aggregations with the same compilation name?
If anyone has any comments on this issue it would be great to hear
someone else's views. I'd like to look into implementing something to
fix this issue, but getting an idea of feasibility from devs who know
the code better than me would be really helpful.
Regards,
Dougal
