As far as I know each new android device has to be added manually before banshee will recognize it.
Because banshee in Ubuntu is only updated every 6 months. Any android phone released outside of the cycle will have to wait for the following.
1. Someone with the device to care enough to complain - 2 months (if your lucky)
2. Someone to add the device to banshee - 1 month (number taken out of thin air)
3. Banshee to make a new release - 6 months (again based on a guess)
4. Ubuntu to release a new OS with the new Banshee - 6 months (max)
So if we add that up worst case is 1 year and 3 months (very rough)
This is over half way through the expected life of a high end smart phone (2 years)
This really needs to rectified. I'm sure someone on the banshee team is smart enough to figure out a way of supporting new android phones from day one.

Well... I posted the information I know... I assume the Optimus S will
get added to the media-player-info project at some point in the near
future, which will eventually update a package and fix the problem.
I'm not sure I understand what these are for. Are you asking me to
post the debug information? or open a bug? Will there even be useful
log/debug information if Banshee isn't recognizing my device?
Regardless I filed a bug:

Thanks,
