A single CD disc in the Norton anthology has 80+ tracks.  (Yes, many
are under a minute).

I think this limit explains nearly every one of my album problems.  Is
that limit really necessary?

No, and it really hampers those power users among us. I don't like that algorithm.
 
There was a patch submitted to remove
it, but obviously it's not in 1.4.3, so perhaps it made it to 1.5.0.
Although the bug report has no more activity since February, and is
still marked unconfirmed.

It'd say on the bug if it were committed.

Also, in general, you may be running into http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=520516, a big thorn in my side. :-/
