Re: Balsa wishlist: multiple email addresses/identities, saving outgoing mail

Hi Emilie:

Welcome! I hope we can get Balsa working the way you need.

Hi!

I'm looking for a new email client to change to from Mozilla Thunderbird. I stumbled upon Balsa and I really like it until now. But I have some wishes (maybe it is already possible, but I couldn't bring it to work):

- multiple email addresses
I would like to check multiple email adresses for new mail. It is possible to specify various POP3-Accounts in the settings dialog, but in the end Balsa seems to check only one. Also it would be nice to have seperate inboxes for every one. If this is difficult, I could settle for logging in with a different account for each address or something.

I've never tested Balsa with multiple POP accounts, as I have only one. But if I set up a second server as a duplicate of the first, it does indeed get checked. Try running Balsa with the "-d" option from the command line; the POP client-server dialog will be echoed on the console, and may give some clue as to why only one server is accessed.

When you get multiple accounts working, you might be able to use procmail filters to deliver the mail where you want. Others on this list should be able to help there--I've always found procmail rules just one cryptic language too many :(

- more transparent multiple identity management
It's good that you can have multiple identities in Balsa. Would it be very difficult to add a selection box in the compose mail dialog so that you can see/change easier what identity you are using (like Thunderbird has).

The "From:" header is a drop-down list of your identities--that's the quickest way to change identity. You can also use the "Select Identity" option on the "Edit" menu.

- saving outgoing email in different folders
A feature that Thunderbird offers in some extension (CopySentToCurrent I think), but seems to be quite uncommon, yet I don't understand why. I would like to be able to chose after sending an email in which folder the local copy is saved (so that it's not 'sentbox' for all of them).

Make sure that "Fcc" is checked on the compose-window's "Show" menu; the "Fcc:" header lets you choose where your file copy of an outgoing message is saved. It's another drop-down list, with your most recently used choices, and a final option, "Other...", which pops up your whole mailbox tree. But you do have to set it /before/ sending, not /after/...

HTH!

Peter
