That was an idle handler, which runs in the main thread, so the  
problem might well remain even with threads disabled.  Iirc, that  
call to the GnomeVFS lib was not known to cause problems when  
1.4.x was current.  You may be seeing an incompatibility between  
your versions of GnomeVFS and GConf.
