FWIW, gtk2-2.4.4 seems to be quite stable in this respect, it does not  
crash in the places it used to. I keep testing. Anyway, balsa linked  
against gtk2-2.4.4 opens 30000+ (3*10^4) strong mailboxes in few (6?)  
seconds, provided your imap server can respond fast enough.
