pspell is deprecated but aspell 0>=0.50 can imitate it. Attached patch  
updates the test and fixes the problem for me (autoconf && ./configure  
should let you test it if you like). It also makes it possible to  
compile balsa with gcc-3.3 and fatal warnings.

I have just commited it to CVS in an unlikely case of balsa-1.4.5  
release.
