Re: Shared call-for-participants & Proposal

Hi,

I would like give some feedback about your points Fred.

1. Translation: Fred are right. We can get a team of volunteers to do
the translation for us. I know many vietnamese IT students who would
love to participate in the translation project.

2. Visa: I think there will be no issue on the visa since I have
already checked with some agencies and Vietnam Immigration Department
as well. The guests can just get the tourist visa which allows them to
stay in Vietnam up to 30 days. During this period, they can attend the
conference. As you said, it is just like in FOSS event. We are not
breaking any rules. Anyway, it is very flexible in Vietnam. If you
"know someone", everything will be taken care of.

3. Organizing in Tet: Fred, I also agree with you on this point. It is
not a good idea to have the event during Tet. Vietnam culture is quite
similar to China.

About the venue, in case QTSC doesn't work out, there are still other
options available.

We did that in China for Linux Developer Symposium and Gnome.Asia and it worked quite well. All translators where FOSS community members (and had technical background) and we did the job in a few days (for free...). Can this model work as well in Vietnam?

Considering speakers will be staying at most 1 week, attending a 2 days conference about FOSS is not really breaking any rule nor does it go against the country security and policies. Is my view incorrect?

Organizing during Tet: this is really a cultural thing, but if we did that in China we'd be sure to have no one as everyone goes back to their families at that time (which is the Chinese New Year here...). Is it different in Vietnam? This is a one week holiday and I am surprised people would rather attend a dev conference instead of seeing their families.
