In my branch I tried to keep structure and code as much as similar to
what I've seen in gtkmm, to ease an eventual review from the

(I'm not maintainer, but) it would be more normal to branch the existing
code and then put the new code in master. I've seen enough of your work
not to worry about it, and I doubt anybody is using this code (and not
from git) now anyway.
